Traveling to Chiang Dao: Getting There from Chiang Mai by Bus

If you are planning a trip to Chiang Dao, a peaceful town in northern Chiang Mai province, the most convenient and budget-friendly way to get there is by bus or minivan. The central hub for arrivals and departures in town is the Chiang Dao Bus Station.

From Chiang Mai to Chiang Dao

Buses and minivans to Chiang Dao depart from the Chang Phueak Bus Station (North Gate Bus Station) in Chiang Mai city. This small terminal is located just outside the northern moat of the Old City, making it easy to reach by songthaew (red truck taxi) or Grab.

  • Distance: Approximately 70 km north of Chiang Mai

Once you arrive in Chiang Dao, the bus will stop at the Chiang Dao Bus Station, a simple and small local station in the heart of the town. From here, you can easily take a songthaew or motorbike taxi to your guesthouse, the famous Chiang Dao Cave, or onward to the beautiful temples and hot springs nearby.

The bus station itself is basic but functional, with small shops and food stalls nearby where you can grab snacks or drinks before continuing your journey.
